Therapy and Life Coaching

We are all intricate and complex beings who have multiple levels and layers on which we can heal. We are not alone on this journey as “individuals”, nor are we defective or pathological. We come from a long line of ancestors, we come from cultures of people who were once–if not now–Indigenous to some part of the world. We are not alone on our journey to our healing, we have history, stories, our family, we are all that has happened to our people, down through time. Our journey is communal Walking with us are all of the various parts of our lives that need to be seen, heard, acknowledged and worked with –Soltahr

We are mind: We have intelligence within the cognitive levels of behavior that can be worked with. Our minds are our way of learning the world, our minds help us to put together the fragmented pieces of our experiences in to a cohesive whole so that as we grow, we use our knowledge to become more wise.

We are body: We hold within our bodies the entire myriad of experiences we have had in our lives. Soma–somatic is about our physical experiencing. As we heal, we move toward becoming more “embodied”, and are enriched by this new awareness of our body as ally, friend, and barometer for all that is going on for us.

We are emotions: We live within the range of emotions from anger to joy, sadness to ecstasy, all are valid, and all can be worked with. All emotions have their place and their purpose, it is ours to understand how they fit into the greater scheme of our lives so that we are aware of them rather than overwhelmed.

We are spirit: We have a spiritual self that seeks meaning and understanding around, within, and underneath all that is around us–nature, loved ones/others and situations around us. We have an innate longing to bring our spirits into alignment with the lives we lead in order to feel whole and fulfilled.

We are Bodies of Culture: We come from as many cultures as our ancestors came from. We are also part of the culture we live in, which is filled with trauma and violence, and it’s in our faces everywhere we turn. It is easy to feel lost and disconnected. Many of our ancestors had to give up their cultures in order to blend into what is called “America” or Turtle Island as it was called by the original people of this land. Working with this part of ourselves is crucial to our collective healing.

Often, during our journeys through our lives, we come upon times where we feel lost, confused, sad, or wondering where we are in that moment without seeing a viable way through. What is needed at these times is a guide, a trusted soul, who we can tell the stories of our hearts to, and who can offer us insight, clarity, understanding, and most of all, unconditional acceptance. I would be grateful to be that guide and trusted soul for you, and to walk with you on this leg of your journey. It is my deepest desire to be of aid in your process of healing and growing into your most amazing self.

As a descendent of Indigenous African culture, I have come to understand how many Indigenous cultures work from a place, not of “pathology of the individual” but one of setting up inquiry around what is being experienced with regards to their family, culture, spiritual experiences, ancestors, and so much more. From this inquiry, a more whole-istic way of living can bring forth deeper understanding of what healing is needed. I work with the idea in mind that I am here to serve my people, my clients, students and those who are seekers. No subject is taboo or off limits.

I work with and from a trauma informed place, recognizing that we must find ways to tend to our wounds and past traumas with love, gentleness and compassion. If we are wanting to incorporate our spiritual understanding of our lives, we must become aware of how these various wounds and traumas have shaped who we are, our relationship to ourselves, to those we love. I feel that my unique experiences have prepared me to work with all that you bring, so that you are able to find a way to live more fully, with joy, hope and a sense of purpose.

“Soltahr, Thank you for helping me find my Warrior many years ago. I remember going within and finding my ancestral roots, and the gifts they left for me. I am convinced that, if we stand strong, with optimism, hope, love, and most importantly-together, we can remain steadfast in the coming battle. Thank you for the gifts you helped lead me to. They will forever help me stay strong. “–BM
